Planning Ahead
There she was, sitting on the front step with a cup of cocoa that her mother made for her. Even at the age of 42, a daughter is never too old for a mother's love. Her mother, now 67, also carried a cup of cocoa...her mother's recipe. She stepped through the screen door and sat down beside her daughter, watching her grandchildren playing in the garden.
"Honey, I wanted to talk to you about something very important to me," the mother said taking another sip of cocoa. "I have been doing a little research for my future and I have decided on a few important details."
Her daughter set her cup down and turned attentively towards her mother, "What is it, Mom?"
"Well, I know neither of us like to talk about this subject but the truth is I'm not going to live forever. I've found a plan that will make that process easier for you and the kids when that day does come. I want to make sure things are organized and paid for ahead of time so that you don't have to worry about a thing. Plus, you'll know that I want roses all around me while the song that your father and I danced to at our wedding is playing in the background. With a Pre-Need plan, I can predetermine how my funeral will be and leave certain parts up to you. It is my wish that I relieve as much stress and monetary strain on you as possible."
"Mom, are you all right? Is everything ok?" Her daughter looked concerned.
"Yes, sweetie, I feel comfortable and free knowing that I won't be leaving you with the burden of my passing." She could see her daughter's face relax and the two of them talked about flowers, colors, music and people to invite. The conversation then turned into laughter and smiles as they reminisced about their lives.
"I love you, Mom. I feel better about this now that we've talked."
"And I love you, honey...more than you will ever know." The two embraced and held each other close.
