The Northern Illinois Hospice Association has been helping terminal patients and their families through the death process for over 22 years.
According to the Northern Illinois Hospice Association their focus is, "honoring your choices – for comfort, particular wishes, and specific needs – and on supporting valued relationships and family values. What's important is not how much time you have to live, but how much living you choose to do in that time."
In addition they state, "Hospice doesn't hasten or postpone death, but affirms life and empowers patients and families. The heart of our gift is both respectful presence and expert support to help you live the remainder of your life as you choose, in comfortable surroundings, free of pain."
Anyone can make a referral and they will work with your physician to develop a personal care plan for you.
NIHA also offers grief counseling, support groups, workshops, children's camp and a library.
